MOUNTAIN STATE ART & CRAFT FAIR

"King of the Mountain" For Traditional Crafts

Rated  in the Top 200 in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine as one of the best traditional art and craft show in the country ... "close your eyes and imagine the environment of the Fair... "picture yourself under a tent shaded by trees, next to a pond full of Canadian geese and paddle boats, with the Appalachian mountains in the distance. Across the way, a man in a black apron demonstrates hand printing. The atmosphere is relaxed. Heritage music seeps into the air, candle makers keep their molds filled; heirloom basket weavers keep their fingers busy; and blacksmiths keep the bellows puffing at roaring fires. Other pioneer skills showcased include glassblowing, soap making, wool dyeing, and shingle splitting...
such is the atmosphere of the Fair"... Sunshine Artist Magazine.

In 1998, more than 200 juried craftspeople and special exhibitors will demonstrate, display and sell their products. In keeping with the "tradition of excellence" the Fair has carefully maintained more than three decades, these are among the highest quality hand crafts to be found anywhere. Other elements of the regions rich history are kept alive by musicians, singers, dancers and story tellers in almost continuous performances through out the Fair.
Take time to go by the concession stands for a taste of unique Appalachian foods: roasted corn, pinto beans and cornbread, buckwheat pancakes, homemade BBQ sandwich or perhaps a cup of ice cream made by the FFA youth.
